Welcome

This site was created for all who wish to learn more about the Hopi language (Hopilavayi). This is a collaborative project and your translation(s) are greatly appreciated. You can send your edits/recommendations/comments by leaving a reply at the bottom of the page.

The Hopi language is categorized as a Uto-Aztecan language spoken by the Hopi people. It should be noted that there are two Hopi language dialects: First Mesa and Third Mesa. To date, the only published Hopi language dictionary is primarily focused on the Third Mesa dialect. We hope to change this by publishing the First Mesa dialect AND making the dictionary available online.

Please note: These Hopi words are from the First Mesa, or Polacca, variety.

Thank you for visiting. Kwa’kway.
